Lunch & Learn Long Term Care Planning
Long Term Care Planning
The number one concern that people in their 50’s and 60’s has today is “How am I going to pay for my retirement?”.
And when you dig deeper into that question, the number one or two concern is related to the cost of health care in retirement.
How much are my premiums going to be? What are my out of pocket medical expenses going to be?
Great questions. Some of the expenses will be covered by Medicare which has a premium that is dependent on your income level.
Expenses not covered by Medicare can be addressed by purchasing supplemental insurance best known as Medicare Advantage Supplemental insurance.
So this helps takes care of our traditional health care needs in retirement - doctor’s visits, hospital stays, and prescriptions.
However, if you need “custodial care” or what is referred to as “long term care”, then other than some transition care provided by Medicare while recovering from a hospital stay, then you are on your own.
So what should you do now to prepare for the possibility of needing long term care? Well as in most cases, the answer is, it depends.
Many factors come into play in the decision making process. Are you married or single? Male or female? Have children to care for you?
Have ability to separate assets from your retirement assets to use for care? Are you currently in good health? Do you have longevity in your family?
Do I want to leave a legacy? Do I want to have options for selecting the type and place of care?
In our seminar, we will cover these questions and present the different options available to you today to help plan and prepare for a long term care event.
