The Woman's Link invite you to join Brigham and Women's Hospital physicians Elizabeth Matzkin, MD, and Elnaz F. Firoz, MD, from Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center to explore topics in women's health.

Speaker Bio for September 2015 :
Elizabeth Matzkin, MD is the Chief of the Women’s Sports Medicine program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. She has developed a world-class program for female athletes with a robust research program focusing on Women’s Sports Medicine. She is highly regarded for her accomplishments in education, research and patient care.
Dr. Matzkin completed her Surgical and Orthopedic residency training at the University of Hawaii. From there, she completed a fellowship in Shoulder and Sports Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. During that time she served as an assistant team physician to the Duke University Football and Men’s Basketball teams. Prior to developing an outstanding Women’s Sports Medicine program at BWH, she was an Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine.
She currently helps care for the US Soccer teams and US Women’s’ hockey team. She is the head team physician for Stonehill College. Dr. Matzkin is involved in mentoring and training medical students, residents and fellows. She has contributed to the scientific literature in several areas – including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and has co-edited a book on Women’s Musculoskeletal Health.
Her clinical practice specializes in disorders of the shoulder, knee, and all sports-related injuries. Dr. Matzkin specializes in advanced open and arthroscopic surgical techniques to restore damaged joints, ligaments, and bones. Common surgeries include treatment of rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability, shoulder arthritis, meniscal tears and knee instability (ACL, PCL and complex ligamentous injuries).
Dr. Matzkin is a member of many professional societies, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America and Eastern Orthopedic Association. She currently serves on the Women’s Health Issues Advisory Board, the Council of Delegates for the American Society for Sports Medicine and as a Leadership Fellow for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons - enabling her to engage and pursue leadership roles at local and national levels.
In her free time, she enjoys running, playing ice hockey and spending time with her husband and 3 daughters.
Elnaz F. Firoz, MD, is a dermatologist specializing in community health, preventive medicine, and education. She loves teaching her patients how better to take care of their skin so that they can decrease their skin cancer risk. She also enjoys talking to children and teenagers to educate them about safe sun practices. Dr. Firoz sees a multitude of women’s health related skin conditions in her practice.
Dr. Firoz enjoys helping underserved populations, at home and abroad, access care. She has spent time in La Romana, Dominican Republic, with HIV patients; Shiprock, New Mexico, with the Navajo through the Indian Health Service; and Harlem with the homeless.
Dr. Firoz completed her undergraduate degree at Harvard College in 2003; medical school at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, in 2009; medical internship at the Mount Sinai Hospital in 2010; and dermatology residency at Brown University in 2013.
While not at work, she enjoys travel, photography, and spending time with her husband and two young children._________________________________________________________________
