SUMMARY:The Sage School 5th Annual STEAM Expo
DESCRIPTION:The Sage School will host its 5th Annual STEAM Expo at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge on Monday\, December 17 at 6:00 pm. The theme this year is Urban Equity.\nDesigners\, developers\, investors and policymakers are faced with increasingly tough choices as to how to intervene within changing urban physical and social landscapes. How do you maintain the DNA of the city when it undergoes profound transformations? Who is the city for? How do you reconcile public and private interests? Who pays and who gains?\n\nThese are others are some of the questions that Sage upper school students tackled in this year's (2018/19) STEAM expo. They defined a large set of inequities as determined by economic status\, gender\, disabilities\, age etc. and then\, with the help of inspiring professional partners\, went on to dive deeper into these problems with an attempt to offer one\, focused yet robust inspiring solution. At the Expo you will get to see and hear from the students about their innovative products. An amazing evening to see the solutions to today's challenges from tomorrow's leaders. \n\nSome projects are:\n\nThe Butterfly Effect - community center within a housing project\n\nMedi-Doze Box - medication dispenser for mental patients\n\nMSC (Mobile Santitation Center)\n\nS.N.A.P.y Card Code - unique barcode system on food stamps to encourage healthy eating\n\nDrone Zone - Using drones to teach about STEAM\n\nOn The Road to Art - Repurposed school bus that offers community engagemetn and access to art/makerspace.\n\n\n\nThis year's partners include: \n\nSidewalk Labs Toronto\n\nSenseable City Lab at MIT\n\nThe Davis Center for Global studies at Harvard\n\nNeal Richardson - DearmBuilders4equity.org\n\nChris Martin - Principal / Practice Group Leader\, Wilson HGA Architects\n\nSteven Harkey\, Democracy Prep Public School\n\nAnthony D'Amato\, Boston City Properties\n\nDr. Jody Weber\, Chair of the Dance Department at Bridgewater State University and Artistic Director of Weber Dance
